USS Nautilus was named after the vessel in the novel Twenty Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Vern. Shown here in a 1/350th scale surface configuration with a Navy Loon Missile exiting a watertight pressure chamber being prepared for pressure chamber tests. A second Loon awaits inside the pressure chamber. Loons were never actually launched from the decks of the USS Nautilus.
