A colorful part of American
history is brought to life in this 1/32nd wonderfully executed,
moderately enhanced scale model of a Curtiss P-40E Warhawk of
the "Flying Tigers". |
|
This plane represents a similar
aircraft to that of Robert P. ("Duke") Hedman who downed
five Japanese planes, making him one of the first American Aces
of World War II.
|
It took a rare breed of
brave men to fly these incredible planes into battle against
the Japanese over China during WWII. The tiger faces painted
on each plane seemed to express the ferocity and fearlessness
of the pilots who served under Claire Chennault. |
There were never more than
50 ready for combat at any one time. Parts were always in short
supply and bullet holes were hastily patched with chewing gum
and tape. |
|
|
In combat they were outnumbered
at least ten to one. Surviving the odds, the Tigers were never
beaten in battle. In fact, in just six months of service, they
destroyed at least 299 Japanese planes. |

This realistic "Flying
Tiger" model is enhanced with many embellishments.
The air brushed camouflage
paint job is complete with highlights such as powder marks from
the guns firing and gravel nicks on the propeller blades and
leading wing edges. The engine cover is left off to show the
brass engine detail work. The cockpit is fitted with seat belt
and colorful detailed gauges. |

Mounted on a custom base created
to simulate concrete complete with oil spills, patches and grid
marks. Trimmed in a beautiful exotic wood, Padauk, which is sealed
and finished in numerous coats of natural hand rubbed fine oils.
|
A brass name plate mounted
on Padauk adds to this high quality presentation.
A clear acrylic dust cover
is included to prevent dust and any harm from coming to this
lovely work of art.
